"When I started a business ..." - what is it like to do business for women in Georgia

Irma Daushvili, Founder and CEO of DIO: “In very few countries in the world do women participate in business as fully as men. Consequently, female entrepreneurs face a range of problems of fully realizing themselves. Typical problems from this spectrum are access to financial resources and the problem of entrepreneurship education.

These problems are even more prominent in countries like Georgia, because in our country there is not much experience in women's entrepreneurship. The lack of education in the business sector also hinders the development of women in the business sector. Today the younger generation has more opportunities to learn and develop. They have more access to information, although the traditional approach to women's activities remains a problem in the regions.

It is especially difficult for women to divide time between family and activities. Women constantly has to choose between family and activities, and always have a sense of guilt towards your own children, that they are lacking something from you.

Women always have to work hard to prove themselves, they also have the ability to run a business just as successfully and gain the trust of the community. Initiatives by women are often viewed with suspicion. That was 25 years ago when I started the blinds business. Few if any believed in the success of my business. Especially important at such times is the support of family members, which women often do not have. Sometimes they even hinder his success.

It is especially important for women to believe that they can implement their own idea. Gain information and believe in success. The lives of women entrepreneurs are full of obstacles, but the more resistance you overcome, the stronger you become and the more courageous you go towards your goal.”
